3:00 – 4:30 PM: From Barriers to Belonging: Indigenous Peoples, Disability, and the Power of Stories
Indigenous experiences and perspectives regarding disability hold significant value and are important to share. This session features panellists who will draw on their lived experiences to explore the unique barriers and systemic tensions Indigenous peoples living with disability face. Given Canada’s commitment to “Indigenize,” “decolonize,” and “reconcile” its relationship with Indigenous peoples while simultaneously upholding principles of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility, it is imperative the voices of those with lived experience be heard. This panel offers a compelling opportunity to listen, learn, and share about the Indigenous disability experience in British Columbia and beyond.
